Great job on submission. Reminder of that scene in The Passion… was powerful. I think that beyond the physical punishment that He took, the spiritual/ emotional angst of carrying every sin from day one until the day of the new earth had to be incomprehensible pain and agony.

Let us focus on His sacrifice for us miserable beings this week.

George you have hit the nail (no pun intended) on the head. Our society admires and promotes the “all about me” and “what’s in it for me” attitude. From “My way or the Highway”, to “have it your way”, to “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, our culture screams for personal fulfillment, becoming number one, looking out for number one, and climbing to the top regardless of the wreckage left in your wake.

If you are submissive you are considered a door mat, a weakling, an underachiever. Hardly the Biblical case.

As you noted in Philippians, submission is the pathway to humility, and the close cousin of simplicity. Simplicity helps us control our urges for material possessions, and submission helps to treat our issues with grace and humility.

In the Garden Jesus said “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matt 26:39 Living at the center of God’s will, and not our own, is a life of submission.

As Jesus said in the Lord’s prayer, “Thy will be done,” Matt 6:10 A life of submission is a life lived in victory.

A dear friend and mentor once told me that “When you get into a situation where you find yourself getting out of control (primarily in relationships), just put yourself in the courtyard with Jesus (during the flogging scene in Passion of the Christ) and remember to be as submissive as Jesus was.” And it worked.

I wonder if I began every day watching that scene, if somehow my day would be more joyful, as I live it out at the center of God’s will in submission (and subsequently in Love), not only with Jesus but with all those in the world around me?

    Blessed Resurrection Day to all……..

    Greg
